Caprera is a granitic island, part of the Maddalena Archipelago situated off the northeast tip of Sardinia. It is home to a significant range of Mediterranean flora and has shores on which sandy coves alternate with cliffs rising sheer above the sea. Its waters are particularly clear and brilliant owing to the strong currents that sweep away particles in suspension and the beds of glistening white sand that accentuate their blue tones. The history of Caprera is linked to the name of Giuseppe Garibaldi, who bought it in 1854, lived on it at various times and was buried there.
